Our quarterly newsletter has become biannual (not by choice) and I have had less personal contact with many of you who have previously written to me on a regular basis. The reason for this is we have had a massive work load designing, developing software and marketing for other companies. We do apologise to those of you that we cannot send regular email to, and hope to change this situation by March '99 when several of our marketing contracts expire. **** 1. New Flowerbase Upgrade Now Available for Download (V3.8c for Windows) A new version of Flowerbase is now available for download for registered users. You can determine which version you currently have by starting your copy of Flowerbase, and then looking in the top left hand corner of the opening screen. Flower Essences and Chiropractic Therapy - Living Essences of Australia One of the growing areas of Flower Essence Therapy is its use in conjunction with chiropractic therapy. There are three main reasons for this. a. Firstly, the growing awareness of how states of mind effect the body, and in particular posture and muscle tension, immediately suggest therapy for the deep roots of a problem while correcting the physically manifested aspect. b. Secondly, the new information from Drs. Vasudeva and Kadambii Barnao as to the application of flower essences on specific acupuncture points. c. Thirdly, the consistency of efficacy of the flower essences used with the Floral Acu-Maps, the Living Essences of Australia, which ensure the results. There are seven essences most commonly used in chiropractic; Dampiera, Menzies Banksia, Purple Flag Flower, Macrozamia, Yellow Flag, Pink Fairy and Hybrid Pink Fairy Orchid. DAMPIERA This is for use on cramping muscles and areas of the body that have seized up. Simple application of the essence to the areas effected will allow a gradual release. Also good for people with tight body tension from worry or rigid attitudes. MENZIES BANKSIA This is used on painful hot spots and sites of old injuries which continue to cause muscle spasm. Often used in conjunction with Dampiera for that reason. Can be simply applied to effected area. Also good for those who have fear of pain because of past experiences and hence are always expecting it, adding to their stress and therefore their pain. PURPLE FLAG FLOWER This is used where there has been a build up of pressure which needs releasing. Can be simply applied to effected area. Also good for those who can't release their mental stress. MACROZAMIA This is used where pain is associated with sexual, particularly menstrual pain, or blocking of movement or build up of fluids in the body. Can be simply applied to effected area. YELLOW FLAG FLOWER This is used on the Shenmen acu-point to relieve feelings of stress and generally brighten up the patient. PINK FAIRY ORCHID This is used on the Shenmen acu-point to relieve feelings of stress in those who cannot tolerate environmental pressures such as noise, hectic situations and interruptions. HYBRID PINK FAIRY ORCHID This is used on the Shenmen acu-point for those whose stress is a hyper-sensitivity to people's reactions. The common method of use is to consult the patient, to investigate and diagnose what are the causes of pain, injury or discomfort in the usual way. Essence are then selected to prepare the patient for their spinal or other adjustment. The essences are then applied and for up to ten minutes the patient lies quietly for the essences to be absorbed deeply. EXAMPLES OF TREATMENTS: a. Patient comes to chiropractor with back pain, and the back muscles are extraordinarily fight, with sporadic painful areas. The chiropractor applies Dampiera on site and either applies Menzies Banksia to the painful areas, or applies it to the appropriate floral acu-point on the ear. After a few minutes the chiropractor investigates again and if necessary adjusts the spine without undue pain for the patient, because the muscles are already released and there is not an expectation of pain in the body. Afterwards the adjustment holds very well because the muscles aren't pulling the spine out of alignment again in a habitual response. . b. A very anxious and stressed patient is needing an adjustment. The chiropractor first de-stresses the patient using Yellow Flag Flower and Hybrid Pink Fairy Orchid on the Shenmen acu-point of the ear. Then purple Flag Flower is applied down the spine to relieve the build up of pressure. After a few minutes the chiropractor sees the pain has gone with the stress and a small adjustment is needed, that enhances the patients increasing sense of well being. QUESTIONS OFTEN ASKED Question: Do the flower essences mask the injuries, like pain killers do? Answer: No they relieve causes, or the states of mind which create more pain than is necessary for the body to signal its need for attention. If there is an injury the flower essences will not work against those very necessary signals. Question: Are there other ways to use the flower essences? Answer: Yes, flower essences can be given orally as a longer term and deeper way of working with a patients imbalances. Question: Are the flower essences easy to use? Answer: There are easy and there are more in depth ways of using the flower essences, and usually each therapist designs their own use of different techniques. Finally a word from a chiropractor who uses Flower Essences: "... another essence that I use in the clinic is Menzies Banksia. This works in two ways, one is the actual reduction of the pain level that the person is going through and at a mind level it allows the person to realise that with the pain they are going through they will be alright at the end of it. Often when adjusting people I will use and leave the Menzies Banksia and/or Dampiera on the muscles for ten or more minutes and after returning to make the adjusment the body accepts the adjustment better than if you were to just force against spasmed muscles." "... as the health care system emerges into a more holistic approach we should be opening up to areas of practice that can assist us in our different forms of human service. I have had excellent results so far from using flower essence therapy in conjunction with chiropractic care and I know that this will only keep on getting better." - Dr. Gregory Oke. **** 3. New information module - Alaskan Flower Essences We are very excited to be able to release a new module that many of you have been requesting for a long time, namely the Alaskan Flower Essences. Full credit goes to Jenny Bradford in Queensland Australia for assisting in the development of this module. The new module is based on the book The Essence of Healing by Steve Johnson. The module includes full descriptions, key words, and remedy statements on 72 Flower, 48 Gem, and 12 Environmental Essences. Steve Johnsons personal annotations to this module capture the pristine and pure environment of the untouched Alaskan landscape, offering remedies for a mass array of emotional conditions. This module is the second largest in the collection of the Flowerbase modules (with FES being the largest), and could easily be used by modern flower essence therapists without the support of other information modules. The essence remedies in this module address many modern conditions of the nineties being faced by clients and presented to therapists. Earlier this year, we wrote to Perelandra inviting them to join all of the other mainstream companies represented by Flowerbase information modules. After some consideration, Perelandra wrote back to us stating "the information and methods we teach for using essences are different from what is taught on your web site and would not fit the format of the Flowerbase program". We were perplexed by Perelandra's response, and could only conclude that they really hadn't looked at the software. In the early days of Flowerbase, we would write back and forth to companies explaining and educating them on how Flowerbase works (over 60 letters to FES!). These days, we haven't got the luxury of time to write so many letters to companies who believe they know it all, so we're going to leave the task of Perelandra to our existing Flowerbase users. This is the best we can do and we do apologise to our registered users who have been waiting for Perelandra for so long. Perhaps someone could write back to me letting me know Perelandras "special" ways which put them ahead and above the rest. As far as I'm concerned, a flower is a flower! **** 5.
