Feature article - Floral Acupuncture, Acupressure and Floral Magnetic Therapy Drs. Vasudeva and Kadambii Barnao of Living Essences of Australia have pioneered a new technique combining the principles of acupuncture and flower essence therapy. As well as being an effective diagnostic technique, the method serves as an equally effective method of treatment. We have extracted the following article from their book "Walkabout Healing Handbook" which is available from Living Essences of Australia. I had the pleasure of meeting with Vasu and Kadambii some time ago, and they were able to demonstrate the technique to me personally. Flowerbase features the Living Essences information module, and the use of Flowerbase in quickly finding remedies to use during the diagnosis/treatment is encouraged. The Walkabout Healing Handbook is available complete with acu-maps from Australasian Flower Essence Academy, PO Box 355, Scarborough, Perth, 6019, WA, Australia. "We have great pleasure in introducing the first Floral Acupuncture/pressure maps and the bringing of both modalities of healing together for those who will benefit. Our research in this area has led us to further the application of both Acupuncture/pressure and flower essence therapy techniques. Our experience in treating physical, and many emotional/ mental ailments with flower essences has lead us to the conclusion, that their healing effectiveness can be utilized more fully when used on acupuncture points or other specific points on the body. For acute therapy floral Acu-points are very efficient and easy to use. Learning the anatomical placement of Acu-points and their corresponding essences will widen one's range of healing, particularly for physical symptoms. There are three basic methods for using the Floral Acu-points: Firstly with Acupuncture, using needling techniques on points to which specifically designated essences have been applied. In Acupuncture the needle is dipped in the essence before puncturing or the essence can be applied in drops, or with a cotton bud to the area being needled. Using essences in this way has proved to be very effective however to do this training in Acupuncture is a prerequisite. We believe that those who are qualified to use acupuncture will find that flower essences compliment their craft. It will enable them to treat a wider range of emotional and mental problems. The second usage is with Acu-pressure using fingers or using a cotton bud, (a stick with a cotton wool head, in America they are called quick tips) applying essences to the bud and then pressing the specific points for three to five minutes. It is most effective to treat both sides of the body when possible, for example, the Shenmen point in both ears. They can be used by purely applying the essences to the appropriate point. When using a flower essence by purely applying it to the body we have found it is good to place medical adhesive tape, which is porous and absorbent, on the body point. Apply the essence three or four times a day, stimulating it with finger pressure or a cotton bud. However, good placement of the essence is very important. If the maps are studied and with practise used efficiently the greater will be the results. When using a cotton bud it should be wetted by dropping the essence on to it, (do not immerse the bud in your working stock, you will contaminate it with foreign matter). Stimulation is then done on the Acu-point by pressing firmly with an up and down motion. The bud should not leave the surface of the skin in the process. The third method is to use the flower essences is with magnets and Magnetic therapy, using magnets taped to specific body points, soaked in essences and then stimulated with pressure. The magnets must be small and disposable. Covering them in a thin film of Micropore (adhesive absorbent medical tape), before taping them to the body is preferable so that the chance blistering of the skin does not happen. Specific essences are then applied over the day. Generally the magnets should be left on for up to one month and stimulated by applying the appropriate flower essence followed by finger pressure for one to three minutes four to six times a day. One important point to follow is; when the person's symptoms disappear after putting on the magnets but return at a later date, say a week or two later, it is important to immediately remove the magnet but continue to stimulate that same point with the same flower essence and finger pressure with the same frequency as before. The ailment should then be thoroughly dealt with. For the auricular points much smaller magnets should be used and therefore must be secure so as not to fall into the ear cavity. The patients themselves can stimulate the magnet, using some essence and then pressing, four to six times a day. Of these three methods our most favoured is using magnets. The main reasons why we favour it is its effectiveness, and ease of use. We have found it to be equally if not more effective than using the essences with puncturing. The magnets we use are square. Some may ask why use square magnets? Our experience has led us to believe that a square magnet can be used more effectively for this purpose than other shapes. When a square magnet is placed so that two corners of the square line up and down the meridian line the integration of the flower essence into the person is greatly enhanced. Whereas when two sides of the magnet are placed horizontally across the meridian line this does not happen. So it is important that the Acu-magnets are placed in diamond shape, (as opposed to square) with the points of the diamond pointing up and down the meridian being used. Placing the line of the square across the meridian line will affect its flow. It is therefore important when using the magnets to know the map of the whole meridian where the Acu-point occurs. One question often asked is, should a person take the same essence orally which they are being treated with using floral acu-therapy? When a course of floral acu-pressure or acupuncture is being undertaken the essences used should be taken orally as well. However when a person is receiving a course of floral magnetic therapy the same essences as used in the treatment should only be taken after the magnets are removed. This is a general guide and not a hard and fast rule." The book goes on to introduce Floral Acu-maps, and instructs on how to find points for treatment. Floral acu-maps are introduced for stress, pre-menstrual tension, addiction, obesity and pain (including several types of headaches, menstruation and back pain). Acu-maps are also available for weariness, devitalization, separation of mind and body, restlessness, obsessive negativity and hatred, feeling shattered, oppression, suppression, feeling disillusioned in love, and sexual blockages/imbalances. A copy of the book is a valuable addition to the professional flower essence therapist's library. 2. Flowerbase 5th birthday sale Flowerbase is 5 years old this month!
