FLOWERBASE for Windows version 2.1 now available! Over the past couple of months, we have been programing some new features into FLOWERBASE, including; i. New "File" and "Edit" main menu functions, which give you all the flexibility needed to print, cut, paste, and edit from anywhere in FLOWERBASE. ii. A new "List of key words" button, available from the REPERTORY main screen. When you click on this button, FLOWERBASE goes through all of the information modules on your system, and constructs a list of available key words. This is a once off set up procedure, and the next time you click the control, the list of key words is displayed. The list is case sensitive, and scrolls to the word you are looking for as you type it. A constructed list for copies downloaded from the Internet typically contains around 400 words, whereas a registered copy containing all of the available information modules contains 4000 unique key words, almost twice the average person's vocabulary. iii. A "How to order" screen (unregistered versions only), taking away all of the confusion of prices etc. The "How to order" screen also contains a means of procuring additional modules. The new screen is further discussed later in this newsletter. iv. All keyboard controls are now working in FLOWERBASE, giving you the option of mouse control (my favourite!), or keyboard control. Keyboard control is conventional, and simply involves the user pressing the {Alt} key, followed by the letter underlined on the push button or menu. For instance, to select "Repertory" from the main menu using keyboard controls, you simply press {Alt} {R} together, to activate the pull down menu. How to upgrade your copy of FLOWERBASE to version 2.1. You may upgrade your existing version of FLOWERBASE using the following method; i. Download a copy of FLOWERBASE for Windows from the FLOWERBASE home page. ii. Install it into a directory other than the existing FLOWERBASE directory on your computer (e.g., C:\TEMP). iii. From this directory, copy the FBASE_W.EXE and FBASE.HLP files to your existing FLOWERBASE directory, copying over the old FBASE_W.EXE file. iv. Run FLOWERBASE as per normal, to implement the new version. v. Delete the downloaded files and directory (C:\TEMP), from your computer if you wish to conserve hard drive space. Note: This method is guaranteed to work for registered versions, but may not be suitable if you attempt to upgrade an unregistered copy. On-line registration introduced - an easier, quicker and cheaper way of purchasing your FLOWERBASE software. The Internet has proven to all of us as not only an effective tool of communication and sourcing information, its also an excellent means by which we can distribute computer applications, foregoing the need to pay for expensive manuals, boxing, air mail etc. We've now put together a system, where you may register your copy of FLOWERBASE through a "passcode" system, where the unique ID number of your copy is returned to FLOWERBASE, together with your registration payment. You may alternatively purchase the complete FLOWERBASE package, which consists of the operating guide, original diskettes, and a presentation box. On registering FLOWERBASE, you receive a corresponding passcode, which unlocks all of the FLOWERBASE functions giving you a fully accessible copy! You also receive a free copy of the information module "Dr. Bach's Remedies Today" (normally retails at $A49.95), which has a much larger search scope than "The Herbal Remedies of Dr. Bach" - the module currently partially installed on unregistered copies. Vibrational essences (often call flower essences or remedies) are used to help promote health and balance in a holistic way. They are energetic in nature, and are unscented (and not to be confused with essential oils). A BIT ABOUT IRC The IRC is a huge network of servers that provide real-time chat through a variety of types of software (some more user-friendly than others). There are many topics, many servers. You can also make your own "channel" (which is a chat room, or a topic room). You can connect through any number of pieces of IRC chat software. For some reason, at first I found it puzzling to connect to the IRC. I learned the hard way, so the following should make it VERY EASY for you. This is how I connected to the IRC...see if you can duplicate it. This piece of software (Global Chat) seemed to me to be particularly easy to use; there are others are they will work, too. 1. Download the Global Chat software. Find it at http://www.prospero.com/ 2. Launch the application, and give yourself a chat name. 3. Getting to our channel: If you want to see what channels are available, then choose from the channel menu "display channel list." Or, if you know the name of the channel (in this case, essences) then select "join channel" and type in #essences (channel names are always preceeded by #). Then you will be with us and you will see the chat on your screen, the users present, and be able to participate yourself. Occasionally, the text on the screen may suddenly become unreadable. In that case, just close the chat window, get yourself a new one, re-enter the channel and all should be fine. It's really very, very easy. I have included the following article, which you may find interesting; "The radiation emitted from the monitor you're looking at now could be harmful to your health!" For years now, much research has been focused around the potentially harmful effects of the extremely low frequency (ELF) electromagnetic fields emitted by Cathode Ray Tubes (e.g., your television at home, or the monitor that you are using to read this document). Given this uncertainty, he argues that we should limit our exposure to such fields, and recommends the following precautions to minimise exposure; What precautions can we take to minimise exposure to monitor radiation? * Never sit to the side or back of a computer monitor - fields are far stronger here than in the front of a monitor. * Always sit at least 2 feet from your computer's monitor screen - the strength of an electromagnetic field decreases with the square of the distance from it's source. * Use a smaller monitor - larger monitors will release more radiation, as the screen's surface area is larger. * Use a monochrome, or a black and white monitor. Emissions from color monitors are around twice that of monochrome monitors. * Always check that a monitor conforms to the MPR 2 standard of the Swedish National Board for Measurement and Testing before purchasing. In Sweden, many cheaper brands of monitors are banned from being sold, as their field emissions are too high to conform to the requirements of the MPR 2 standard. We have introduced a "Life force energy" disc into our range of products to help deal with the deleterious effects of electromagnetic radiation.
